The Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs presents his compliments to the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies, and is directed by Mr. Secretary Balfour to transmit to him the accompanying copy of correspon- dence respecting certain goods ex the German 8.8. "Bayern", which have been requisitioned by the Italian Authorities.

Should Mr. Secretary Long be in a position to do so, Mr. Balfour would be glad in the circumstances if he would be good enough to furnish a statement showing that the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corpora- tion is registered at Hong Kong as a British

company.

For the purpose required it does not seem material that particulars of the share- holders of the Company should be given.
